For this edition of Inside Nooga, we sat down with Sofie Sandberg, Product Manager for Nooga’s Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) offerings. As the driving force behind Nooga Risk, Sofie brings a unique perspective on how modern organizations can rethink risk management, making it simpler, faster and more impactful.

From Risk Management to Product Leadership

Sofie’s career journey has included roles focused on risk management, business continuity and internal audit, where she gained firsthand experience of some of the challenges GRC professionals face:

  • Collecting the right data across the organization
  • Struggling to get timely insights for real decision-making
  • Managing administrative tasks that often outpace available resources or organizational speed

I saw both the value risk management could bring and the frustration,” Sofie explains. “You spend so much time asking others for information, and for the business it often feels like a distraction from their actual work. That friction slows progress rather than enabling it.

Those insights laid the foundation for Sofie’s product vision at Nooga: a risk management solution integrated directly into the daily workflows where decisions are actually taken.

Rethinking Risk: From Disconnected Processes to Real-Time Insight

For many organizations, risk management can feel disconnected from business reality, a checklist or reporting exercise done in isolation from the work that drives results. Sofie wanted to change that.

With Nooga Risk, we’re approaching the topic from the bottom up,” she says. “Instead of forcing people to leave their daily work to enter risk data or fill in reports, we integrate risk directly into their workflows. It’s seamless for teams, and provides decision-makers with the most relevant, current information to act on.”

The result is a system that:

  • Empowers teams to capture and manage risks naturally as part of their work
  • Keeps decision-makers and second-line functions informed with real-time visibility and up-to-date data
  • Bridges the gap between compliance requirements and business objectives

Sofie emphasizes that this isn’t about digitizing old processes, it’s about rethinking them.

We don’t want to repeat what was done 10–15 years ago when companies just digitalized manual processes. We’re redesigning how organizations work with risk so that it truly adds value.

A Career Built on Efficiency and Impact

When asked what drew her to risk management, Sofie points to her goal-oriented mindset:

Risk management is about increasing the chances of reaching your objectives. I love that it spans everything, from the smallest operational detail up to board-level strategy.”

Her proudest professional moments reflect this mindset. During the COVID-19 crisis, Sofie helped a major Swedish company with more than 400 locations quickly adapt.

We had to go from strategic discussions to real, practical actions almost overnight. It was about thinking ahead, bringing people together, and making decisions with the best information available. That experience taught me how critical it is to combine visibility with broad stakeholder input, seeing the full picture from multiple angles, to enable fast decisions.”

The Human Side of Building Products

While Sofie is passionate about technology and AI’s role in risk management, she never loses sight of the human element. She values collaboration and believes in bringing together people with different perspectives:

Consensus can be frustrating at times, but it also makes the end result better. At Nooga, we combine different backgrounds and experiences, including agile practices, modern development, DevSecOps, GRC, and AI, to define what modern GRC really should look like.”

Outside of work, Sofie finds balance in movement. “Long bike rides or runs in the forest are my way to process the day. By the time I get home, I’ve solved half the problems just by moving.

Excitement for Nooga's Future

What excites Sofie most is the broader ecosystem Nooga is building.

Nooga Risk is powerful on its own, but when we combine it with our upcoming products like Nooga Incident, Portfolio, and of course Nooga Scale, the value compounds. Risk and incident management feed into each other, portfolio management ties strategy to execution, and Scale connects everything across teams.”

Together, these tools form a single source of truth for strategy, planning, execution, and risk management across all levels, creating a unified approach that transforms how organizations approach GRC.

Why She Loves Working at Nooga

For Sofie, it all comes back to the people.

I love working with kind people, and that’s what we have here. It’s a warm, open-minded atmosphere where everyone is driving in the same direction. We help each other out, and that makes a huge difference.
